2006 Apr

Randy traveled in Portugal and Spain. The trip included these three parts:

1. A pilgrimage on the Camino Portugues from Porto, Portugal, to Santiago de Compestela, Spain -- about 11 days and 250 kilometers walking through tiny villages, beautiful countryside, mountain passes, very old churches, etc. The destination was the final resting place of Santiago (aka St. James the disciple of Jesus), and one of the three major pilgrimage destinations throughout the Middle Ages. 2. Finisterre, Spain, about 90 kilometers from Santiago de Compestela -- considered the "end of the world" since pre-Christian times and is full of mystery and beauty.

3. Up the Portuguese Douro River valley, the source of all the world's Port wine. The beautiful mountainsides of this large area are covered with high terraces holding the rocky soil for the grape vines.
